From one generation to the next, the Mertens family has passed on its love of goldsmithery. Gold-plating is a painstaking technique to cover various items, such as objects of art, objects of worship, and precious items, with gold to enhance their value.

Gold electroplating, burnishing with agate stone for a patina, matte or shiny finish and plating, are all techniques requiring dexterity and savoir-faire, carefully honed by the artisan, and these qualities are only acquired through years of painstaking work.
